PUBLIC SPEAKING

It is not enough for schools just to teach knowledge, knowledge is the base of great thinking, but without the practice of using knowledge to challenge and rise to speak when challenged, an academic education falters. Public speaking is one of the most important and most dreaded forms of communication. To overcome this fear, Presidians are encouraged to participate in many public speaking activities and competitions like Debating, extempore, recitation, storytelling, etc.

DEBATING

By having to think clearly and defend or attack an idea, a work, or a philosophy, children are challenged and, in turn, they understand more about the content of the school curriculum and what it means to them. Keeping this in mind and to encourage Presidians, debate features as a part of the everyday curriculum. Many inter-class and inter-schools debate competitions are held to make Presidians good communicators. Debating helps students to develop essential critical thinking skills and enhances their ability to structure and organize thoughts. At these competitions, the students proudly take a stand in favour of or against the topic and present their opinions with clarity and perfect articulation.

EXTEMPORE

Extempore is the art of public speaking that is carried out without preparation or forethought. It puts to test one’s ability to think on the spot and also their spontaneity. Extempore assists the students not only in thinking on their own but also in voicing their creative ideas with precision. With exceptional speech skills, Presidians play with words at various extempore competitions. They make the most out of the opportunity to speak impromptu and share their thoughts on various current topics like global terrorism, global warming, etc. Such extempore activities and speech competitions enhance the skills of listening attentively and the ability of critical thinking in students. They also learn to articulate their thoughts confidently and persuasively.

RECITATION COMPETITION

“Poetry is when an emotion has found its thought and the thought has found words” -Robert Frost

Poetry is the essence of literature. To spread the aroma of poetry and in order to instill a love for poetry among nPresidians, a Recitation Competition is held class-wise. Participation is compulsory for each and every student so that everyone gets a chance to get on the stage and fight their stage fright. It gives the school an opportunity to unleash the hidden talents of students who are shy to raise a hand. These competitions go a long way in enhancing the oratory skills of our Presidians. They come out with full zeal to recite beautiful poetry on different topics of their choice. It is wonderful to see their words find a mesmerising rhythm.

STORY TELLING COMPETITION

Storytelling is the oldest form of education! Storytelling for children is a stepping stone for academic learning. As a regular activity, it can help students to enjoy and better understand their subjects and chapters. Considering that it is the most innovative way to put creative ideas into our young students, storytelling sessions are organized frequently at Presidium. The activity develops their moral values and enhances their language proficiency, verbal skills, creativity and imagination. The Presidians come packed with excitement to wholeheartedly participate in this fun-filled activity and their adorable outfits are in perfect synch with the captivating stories they narrate on stage. By telling and retelling tales about magical worlds, children can begin to understand settings outside of their own experiences and try out their ideas in a safe space.
